The GDC received a complaint about the Registrant, concerning the treatment she provided to a patient under her care. Following an investigation by the GDC into these concerns, allegations were put to the Registrant in relation inadequate diagnostic assessment, treatment, and management of the patient’s condition, not providing the patient with appropriate information on treatment and payment options such that this compromised the patient’s ability to give informed consent, inappropriate referral practice, failures in radiographic practice, and failings in record keeping. Having considered these matters the Case Examiners considered that there was a real prospect that a Practice Committee might find the following: that the factual allegations concerning this complaint were capable of being found proved, the Registrant’s alleged actions constituted misconduct, and that her fitness to practise was currently impaired. Accordingly, the Case Examiners considered that these matters ought to be referred to a Practice Committee for consideration but, in line with their statutory powers. However, they further considered that the circumstances of this case were such that they would be prepared to offer the Registrant the opportunity to enter into undertakings with the GDC, as an alternative to these matters being referred to a Practice Committee. The Case Examiners considered that this was a proportionate response to the risks posed in this case, and that successful completion of the activity described in their undertakings would likely assist the Registrant in addressing relevant concerns as to her fitness to practise, and so sufficiently protect the public. 1.
